Applications Engineer

Position Purpose

The Applications Engineer is responsible for technical, and applications support to the BAC South Africa sales team and customers as this relates to detailed and complex customer requirements.

Principle Accountabilities

• Develop and implement systems and processes to ensure continuous improvement of technical support provided to sales and customers
• Work with the sales team in achieving orders and objectives per the operational profit plan
• Provide support for complex technical selections and solutions that are outside the standard BAC selection software
• Provide detailed analyses of varying solutions for customers demonstrating the relative advantages and disadvantages of interest to a customer’s specific needs
• Support of technical studies to be used for marketing campaigns or publications
• Attend customer meetings with Sales to provide technical expertise – including technical presentations
• Have a sound understanding of the commercial implications of solutions being offered, be able to assist in driving the correct combination of technical and commercial solutions to our customers
• Actively contribute to continuous sales strategy to ensure the potential growth of the area
• High level of accountability both internal and external, regarding new business and relationships
• Prepares reports as necessary or requested to show performance to plans
• Perform miscellaneous duties and projects as assigned and required

Profile

Knowledge And Skills

• Deep understanding of engineering principals with the ability to provide technical support, expert evaluations and solutions to the organisation as well as customers
• Able to build credibility and relationships with internal stakeholder and customers
• An analytically sound approach ensuring the highest quality technical advice is offered
• A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a mechanical engineering role at a medium to high level is preferred
• Able to drive to achieve substantial results without day-to-day direction
• Superior verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present to all levels within BAC including customers
• An engineering degree is essential
• Experience in a role with customer relationships as well as sales interactions
